Goal Zero Nomad 400

400 W foldable four-segment monocrystalline panel with a Goal Zero High Power Port (14–150 V, up to 40 A) plus a 12 W USB-A port, 16.6 kg, IP65-rated, published Voc 23.84 V and Vmp 20.66 V. Officially recommended for the Yeti 1500X and larger Yeti stations; no charge controller included.

brand: Goal Zero family: Nomad rated: 400 W STC confidence: high updated: Aug 10, 2026

A panel is a component, not a power supply. Rated at Standard Test Conditions (1,000 W/m², 25 °C cell temperature). Real-world output is always lower and varies with sun angle, weather, temperature, shading and the controller it is paired with. This index publishes no real-world output figure, because no manufacturer states one that survives checking. A bare panel also has no inverter, no storage and no AC outlet: it charges something else, through a charge controller that is NOT included here.

Overview

The Nomad 400 is Goal Zero's flagship portable panel and the top of the Nomad line: four monocrystalline segments with lamination panel construction, rated 400 W at STC with Voc 23.84 V, Vmp 20.66 V and Imp 20.45 A. Its High Power Port is rated 14–150 V at up to 40 A — a much wider voltage window than the 14–23 V HPP on the Nomad 200 — which is what makes it compatible with the higher-voltage input on the Yeti PRO 4000 and Yeti PRO 8000 as well as the Yeti 1500X/3000X/6000X. It carries an IP65 rating, a 15 ft HPP extension in the box, and Goal Zero publishes temperature coefficients (Vmp -0.30%/°C, Imp and Pmax -0.44%/°C) and a maximum system voltage of 1000 V, which is unusual disclosure for a portable panel. At 36.6 lb (16.6 kg) with a shoulder strap and carrying handles it is portable but firmly two-hand.

Variant note: Current Nomad 400 (SKU 11950). Distinct from the smaller Nomad 200 and from the rigid Boulder line. Solar-generator bundle SKUs that pair this panel with a Yeti are excluded.

Data note: All figures taken from Goal Zero's published product specifications block on 2026-08-10 (SKU 11950). Goal Zero publishes Isc = 20.45 A and Imp = 20.45 A on this page — Isc normally exceeds Imp, so this is preserved verbatim and flagged in weaknesses as an apparent manufacturer data quirk rather than corrected. cableLengthM converted from the published 35.43 in (0.9 m); the box also includes a 15 ft HPP extension recorded under includedAdapters. dimensions in mm converted from the published metric cm (folded 72.5 × 80.5 × 3 cm; unfolded 289.5 × 80.5 × 0.5 cm). Panel construction is stated as lamination rather than glass. Operating temperature range -40 to 85 C is published but not stored (schema has no field for it).

Specifications

Rated power, cell type, form factor, connector and weight come from official manufacturer sources; the exact claims and links are in the provenance table. Electrical characteristics and cell efficiency are recorded only where a numeric figure is published, and compatibility with any particular power station is recorded only where the manufacturer states it. A connector type is not a compatibility claim.

Use cases

  • Recharging a Goal Zero Yeti PRO 4000 or Yeti PRO 8000 in a single day of good sun
  • Long-outage home backup where roof-mount solar is not available
  • Overlanding with a shoulder strap and carrying handles

Strengths and weaknesses

Strengths

  • 14–150 V HPP output makes it compatible with the Yeti PRO 4000 and Yeti PRO 8000, not just the mid-range Yeti line
  • Manufacturer publishes temperature coefficients and a maximum system voltage — unusual for a portable panel
  • IP65 ingress rating on the panel body
  • 15 ft HPP extension in the box

Weaknesses

  • Goal Zero publishes Isc equal to Imp (both 20.45 A); typically Isc exceeds Imp, so this figure is preserved verbatim but flagged as an apparent manufacturer data quirk
  • 16.6 kg is firmly two-hand
  • HPP is Goal Zero proprietary: non-Yeti compatibility is not officially stated
  • No charge controller included
  • 2-year warranty trails the 5- and 25-year warranties elsewhere in this class
